Kalya Murray

Executive Director Bethel Institute for Community Development

Kalya Hamlett Murray is a passionate advocate and leader with over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She has continued the legacy of her parents, Fred and Brenda Hamlett, by educating, empowering, and advocating for the African-American community, and sustaining its rich heritage as a strategic nurturer.

As the Executive Director of the Bethel Institute for Social Justice, Kalya leads measurable transformation in the lives of high-risk youth and their families. Her dedication to creating positive change has been demonstrated throughout her career, which includes serving as Director of Programming and Community Development at the YMCA of Greater Boston, Director of the Girls’ Initiative at Black Ministerial Alliance, and a dual-diagnosis Mental Health Clinician.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Kalya is a dedicated volunteer and serves on a number of boards. She believes that embracing one's culture and understanding its societal contributions is critical to living an authentic life. To that end, Kalya recently founded a parent cultural collaborative for children of the Diaspora. The collaborative strives to educate, build community, and connect children to their roots.

Kalya is a proud graduate of Spelman and Boston Colleges, with a graduate certification from Hood College. She is a member of Bethel AME Church and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Above all, Kalya is most excited about her loving husband and their two energetic boys.

Kalya Hamlett Murray is a true inspiration to those around her. Her passion, dedication, and commitment to creating positive change in the world is truly admirable. She continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of those around her, and her legacy will be felt for generations to come.
