Leadership
Meet Our Leadership
At the heart of Bethel AME Boston’s vision are our founding pastors, Rev. Dr. Ray Hammond and Rev. Gloria White-Hammond, MD. Together, they have shepherded this ministry with courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to justice, healing, and transformation. Their leadership continues to shape the spiritual foundation and forward momentum of our church.
At Bethel, the Trustee Board oversees the care, management, and use of all church property. From maintaining our buildings to supporting campus development, Trustees ensure our physical spaces are safe, functional, and aligned with the mission and ministry of the church.
The Steward Board plays a key role in the spiritual and operational life of the church. Stewards are entrusted with supporting the spiritual well-being of the congregation, helping care for members through prayer, visitation, and sacramental preparation. In addition to their spiritual responsibilities, they also support financial accountability, benevolence, and the proper administration of church business. Stewards are expected to lead with wisdom, discernment, and a deep understanding of AME doctrine and practice — helping ensure that Bethel remains both faithful and well-organized in all areas of ministry.
The Bethel AME Church staff works diligently behind the scenes to support every aspect of church life — from Sunday worship to weekday operations. This team manages communications, ministry coordination, administration, and logistics, ensuring that everything runs smoothly and with care. Their work creates the foundation that allows ministries to flourish and members to stay connected, supported, and spiritually engaged.
Our Ministry Leaders are dedicated members who lead and serve across the many ministries that make up the life of Bethel. From worship and discipleship to outreach and wellness, they give their time, gifts, and spiritual insight to help our church thrive. These leaders work in partnership with staff and clergy to carry out Bethel’s mission — creating spaces of growth, care, justice, and connection for every generation.
