Migrant Neighbor Initiative

Providing Shelter, Stability, and a Path Forward
In response to Massachusetts reaching its shelter capacity and the increasing needs in our community, Bethel has expanded its sanctuary network efforts initiated in 2016. We've provided safe housing and support to individuals facing deportation threats, including a Salvadorean man and a mother fleeing domestic violence with her two children. Recognizing the underutilization of our former rectory, we transformed it into a home where we currently house 25 individuals—offering more than just shelter, but a foundation to rebuild their lives in Boston.

Empowering Families Through Community Support
Our impact goes beyond housing. We’ve supported over 30 families with stable shelter, mobilized over 50 volunteers to provide mentoring and practical support, and helped every family engage in the Mass Hire process to prepare for the local workforce. In partnership with the Immigrant Family Services Institute, we provide weekly ESL and computer classes to over 220 immigrants—including workforce training like Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) programs—empowering participants to secure meaningful employment and build a stronger future.
