Women’s Missionary Society

Where faith takes action — locally and globally.

Founded in 1992 and named in honor of the late Christiana R. Gray, our Women’s Missionary Society at Bethel AME Church carries forward a legacy of humility, compassion, and service. Sister Christiana was a woman of extraordinary faith who served tirelessly while battling breast cancer, supporting single mothers, launching Bethel’s nursery ministry, and inspiring generations to come.

Today, we continue her legacy by addressing real needs — from Boston shelters to clinics in Liberia, from Thanksgiving baskets for families to hurricane relief and youth leadership development. As one of many societies in the Connectional WMS of the AME Church, we’re part of a global network of women in mission across 32 countries and 4 continents.

We believe in being big locally and impactful globally — reaching the disenfranchised, uplifting women and families, and serving in the spirit of Christian love. Whether through prayer, resources, or outreach, we move with faith and purpose.
